Specs:
- CPU – Intel Core i7 Quad-Core (7th Gen), 2.8 GHz
- GPU – 4 GB DDR5, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050
- Memory – 8 GB DDR4, extendable upto 32 GB
- Screen – 15.6-inch Full HD (1,920 x 1,080)
- Storage – 1 TB SATA HDD + 128 GB SSD
- OS – Windows 10 Home edition
Benefits:
- Performance – The configuration seems a tad bit shallow which justifies its low price. It is powered by a Quad-core Intel Core i7 processor which is best for handling gruesome tasks like gaming. It’s followed by 8 gigs of RAM (seems a bit low but enough for your everyday needs) and a dual storage of 1 TB HDD and 128 GB SSD. It alongside the dedicated GPU performed quite superbly.
- GPU – It houses an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 graphics unit which is a good starting point for the amateur gamers as well as graphical users. It can handle most of the reasonably demanding titles even up to the High or Ultra settings in 1080p resolution. But for the rest of the more demanding games, the Medium preset is what it can pull off at most.
- Input – The included SteelSeries keyboard is pretty darn good, to be honest. Typing in it feels pretty good despite having a relatively high key travel distance which makes it slightly springy. The trackpad as well is quite good and pretty spacious.
- Price – Price is something that is of utter importance to the budget consumers. And it certainly passes that test gracefully with a price tag of £860.
Downsides:
- Display – Display is one place where most of the vendors cut the corners from. And this notebook is no different. While the colour coverage of the included 15.6-inch panel is somewhat good, the brightness turned out to be fairly low at merely 235 nits. The contrast ratio of the panel was pretty poor as well.
- No Thunderbolt 3 – Now, I know that it’s a budget gaming cum multimedia notebook and all but that’s no excuse. A gaming laptop these days can’t really be thought without a Thunderbolt port. But Other than that it includes almost every other port.
Verdict:
Let’s check out the checklist again- it’s got the muscle power, it’s got a capable GPU which is good for the beginners and on top of everything else, it is pretty affordable. But on the negative side, the display is just so-so. So, in short, it can be a good choice only for the low budget newbie gamers.
