If you’re in the need of a very basic notebook that would take care of not only your annoying official presentation but also your school projects and a slight bit of gaming then Acer TravelMate B117-M-P9MZ (NX.VCGEK.018) can be a potential contender. It seems to include almost all the most essential stuff that you’d need out of an 11 incher with a moderately decent price tag.

Specs:
- CPU – Intel Pentium N3710 Quad-Core, 1.6 GHz
- GPU – Intel HD Graphics 405
- Memory – 4 GB DDR3
- Screen – 11.6-inch HD (1,366 x 768)
- Storage – 128 GB SSD
- OS – Windows 10 Home edition
Benefits:
- Performance – It is powered by an Intel Core N series processor. It is accompanied by 4 gigs of RAM and quite surprisingly, 128 GB of SSD. While the SSD is only satisfactory as per transfer rate it certainly is much faster than a standard HDD. The low powered CPU and the small RAM is capable of only handling multitasking that much.
- Battery – It comes with a 48 Wh battery pack which at first sight may not look like a great option but upon closer inspection turns out to be quite a beast. If used for moderately needy tasks like continuous web surfing it last nearly as long as 8 hours which is excellent if you ask me.
- Portability – It’s pretty handy due to the 11-inch stature. It’s a pretty sleek and slim looking netbook with even less than an inch of material. As a result, it weighs only as much as 1.4 kg which makes pretty easy to carry it in your bag.
Downsides:
- Display – The display is usually one of the key sections which tends to lag in these netbooks. And TravelMate is no different. The average brightness is pretty darn low making it highly incompatible for using it in the sunlight. The visuals look somewhat dull as well due to the low colour coverage and contrast ratio.
- Price – It’s an expensive option considering the fact that it’s a low range netbook. It would cost you around £380 which upon some comparison, at least with the Chromebooks and the iOTA netbooks, truly sits near the steeper end of the bargain.
- Storage – The meagre 128 GB solid state drive is going to get you in trouble, sooner or later. It easily could have included a larger HDD, to be honest.
Verdict:
It’s one of those cheap netbooks that tends to be a bit pricey. If you happen to be one of those who tends to like to work on the go then this would be perfect for you thanks to its long battery life. It’s a good buy for the very basic users.
