Dell Inspiron I7373-5558GRY-PUS Review

It’s another Inspiron down the list. Inspiron has been one of the most well-known and successful laptop series (or 2 in 1, more specifically). It’s Dell Inspiron I7373-5558GRY-PUS this time around. It’s one of the newer models in the Inspiron series. Let’s see how well it stacks up.

Specs:

  • CPU – Intel Core i5 Quad-Core (8th Gen), 1.6 GHz
  • GPU – Intel UHD Graphics 620
  • Memory – 8 GB DDR4, extendable up to 16 GB
  • Screen – 13.3-inch Full HD IPS (1,920 x 1,080) with 10-point multitouch screen
  • Storage – 256 GB SSD
  • OS – Windows 10 Home edition

Benefits:

  • Performance – Equipped with a powerful Intel Core i5 processor with 6 MB of cache memory, Dell Inspiron I7373-5558GRY-PUS is ready to face any daunting task you might ever come across. Under heavy load conditions (multiple tabs open in the browser while streaming videos online), it lagged only for a split second. It can be ignored looking at the fact that you would hardly need to open 10 or 12 tabs simultaneously ever. The built-in Intel UHD Graphics 620 GPU, although not very powerful, is almost as capable as a Nvidia GTX 920M. So, if you are planning to run some minor photo editing tools or some lightweight CAD software, you potentially would have absolutely no problem.
  • Feel – The keyboard has a great feel to it. The keypresses are not bad at all. I especially liked the backlighting feature of the keys making it possible to work in a poorly lit environment. The trackpad and the touchscreen work almost as good as it should be as well.
  • Fast SSD – Dell did a great job here. Instead of an old traditional hard disk drive, they supplied it with a faster flash-based solid state drive. The absence of moving parts (as you see in an HDD) makes it pretty faster. The average transfer speed can go as high as 150 MBps.

Downsides:

  • No optical drive – It doesn’t come with a built-in optical disk drive. It’s a bummer if you ask me. It could have been ignored if it was one of those small-scale Chromebooks (or palmtops). But for a full-size 13-inch laptop, it’s kind of a disappointing according to me. Some people might find the CD drive just a thing that only adds up to the weight, but if you’re like me who still needs to run those disks then it would be very irritating.
  • Battery – The 38 Wh battery barely is enough to run this laptop. It does fall behind from its competitors regarding the battery backup. So, if you need to get into a prolonged working session, then you better remember taking your power brick with you.

Verdict:

It’s a great performer at a limited price. It is a good candidate for a mid-budget 2 in 1. It isn’t one of those that try to outperform the competitors in any one field. It delivers a quality performance consistently.
