Dell i5379-7909GRY-PUS Review

There has been an abundance of ‘2 in 1’s in the market these days. So many people are after these laptop cum tablet stuff that almost all the companies including Asus, Acer and Dell have dedicated a number of series just for them. Dell Inspiron is arguably is one of the most prominent and well-known series in budget laptop section. Today, we are gonna look at one of the Inspirons, Dell i5379-7909GRY-PUS.

  • CPU – Intel Core i7 Quad-Core (8th Gen), 4.0 GHz
  • GPU – Intel UHD Graphics 620
  • Memory – 8 GB DDR4, extendable up to 16 GB
  • Screen – 13.3-inch Full HD IPS (1,920 x 1,080) with 10 point touch screen
  • Storage – 1 TB SATA HDD
  • OS – Windows 10 Home edition

  • Performance – It has got a powerful i7 processor with 8 MB cache which can tackle all your everyday needs without even the slightest delay. The GPU, Intel UHD Graphics 620, is not the greatest part of the laptop though. It still can be considered as a replacement of a lower end Nvidia GPU. Some of the relatively older games like the Half-Life 2: Lost Coast, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Far Cry 2 and FIFA 14 runs at more than a 95 fps in high resolution. It ran games like Doom 3 (150 fps) and Quake 4 (60 fps) in the ultra settings in a more than adequate quality. And all of this despite the fact that it’s not a gaming laptop in the first place. So the bottom line is like this: the dominant processor and the relatively weaker GPU can handle almost any regular task other than hardcore gaming.
  • Price – Price is another important factor of this model. It would be a very difficult (if not impossible) task to find another laptop with 8th gen i7 processor at this price level. Dell did a commendable job to keep the price under $900 range.

  • Slow HDD – Dell i5379-7909GRY-PUS features a 1 TB hard disk drive which is not ‘so good’ at all. It can eventually drag your laptop’s performance back due to its slow and limited transfer speed. It could have been so much better with an SSD instead of an HDD, or even better a hybrid storage system.
  • No optical drive – It doesn’t come with an optical drive either. Sorry, kiddo!! can’t play those old and dirty CDs.
  • No Thunderbolt 3 – While it does provide 2 USB 3.0 ports, it doesn’t support the all-new blazing fast Thunderbolt 3 technology. So, the transfer speed is much less than the maximum of 40 Gbps. It could have been much sweeter with at least one port with Thunderbolt support.

Dell i5379-7909GRY-PUS has been proved as a good overall performer. It does lack in a few departments as mentioned above. But rather than outperforming in a specific field it provides excellent all-round performance reliably and consistently. And over of all, it comes at an affordable and fair price. So, if you want a higher mid-range laptop then this might just be for you.
