Razer Blade Stealth RZ09-01964E31-R3U1 Review

Razor has been in the business of producing premium quality laptops (collectively known as the almighty ‘Razor Blades’) for a while now. They tend to be lying on the steeper edge due to their quality and superiority. Today, we are gonna look at another excellent product from them, the Razer Blade Stealth RZ09-01964E31-R3U1.

Specs:

  • CPU – Intel Core i7 Dual-Core (7th Gen), 2.7 GHz
  • GPU – Intel HD Graphics 620
  • Memory – 16 GB DDR3
  • Screen – 13.3-inch QHD+ IPS (3,200 x 1,800) with 10 point touch screen
  • Storage – 256 GB SSD
  • OS – Windows 10

Benefits:

  • Performance – Let’s see what it has got under the case. It comes with a 7th generation Intel Core i7 processor, 16 gigs of RAM and an external 256 GB SSD. One important thing to notice is that the GPU is an integrated Intel HD Graphics 620. More on that later. And as for the performance, on synthetic and real-life strain tests it almost always sat on the top of the branch among the potential contenders like MacBook Pro and Microsoft Surface laptop.
  • Battery – The 54 Wh battery that comes with it gives a great performance at keeping it alive for hours. The battery backup in the previous version wasn’t one of the greatest as it was prone to run dry in just 3 to 3 and a half hours whereas in this version it lasts up to 7 to 8 hours under normal usage. So, a big thumbs-up.
  • Display – The brilliant Quad HD+ display is, in fact, one of the most attractive features of this notebook. Razor decided to bring down the quality of this model from 4K (3,840 x 2,160) to QHD+ (3,200 x 1,800) from the previous version. But to the ecstasy of the users, it remains almost as sharp and crystal clear as before. The screen supports 10 point multi-touch. Although the display may not seem to be picture perfect at first as it doesn’t come pre-calibrated from the factory.

Downsides:

  • Price – First and foremost, you can absolutely not expect a Razor Blade to come at a slightly less price. If you compare it with some of its less ‘superior’ competitors (and that excludes Apple MacBook) you would eventually find out that, for what it’s offering, it’s at least 200 to 300 bucks costlier. And it felt a bit too much overpriced if you ask me. But again, you get the quality and class of the Razor Blade for that cost. It’s completely up to one’s personal choice according to me.
  • GPU – If you looked closely at the hardware details you would notice shortly enough that there is no dedicated GPU in this laptop. Now, one can argue that it isn’t one of those gaming laptops in the first place. But that argument hardly stands a chance if you check out some of the laptops like ASUS FX502VM-AS73, MSI GP72VR Leopard Pro and Eluktronics N870HK1 Pro that comes in the $1400 ballparks. You would notice that they either include a GTX 1050Ti or a GTX 1060 graphics card. So if you ask me, I would strongly suggest that if a laptop is going to be as costly as a Razor Blade it should include a proper GPU.
  • Fan noise – Now, one cannot expect such an issue with a first-rate product like this. But there have been a significant number of complaints regarding the fans of this notebook being super noisy. Under load conditions, it tends to abruptly make an awful lot of noise.

Verdict:

It’s pretty steep; no one can deny that fact. After looking at all the pros and cons do I think that it’s a good notebook? Absolutely. But again, would I recommend it? Only maybe. Now, if you are willing to spend a considerable amount of money for a ‘quality product’, then you should obviously go for it. But I would suggest you to look a bit more around the market before that.
