Specs:

  • CPU – Intel Core i7 Dual-Core (7th Gen), 2.7 GHz
  • GPU – Intel HD Graphics 620
  • Memory – 16 GB DDR3
  • Screen – 13.3-inch Quad HD+ IPS (3,200 x 1,800) with 10 point touch screen
  • Storage – 1 TB SSD
  • OS – Windows 10 Home edition

Benefits:

  • Performance – Let’s take a closer look at the specs sheet before diving into the performance details. It includes an Intel Core i7 processor, 16 GB of low power DDR3 RAM and one TB of superfast SSD which is not really a common sight looking at the capacity of the SSD. The solid state drive is really zippy- while transferring mass data the average transfer rates were around 350 MBps. The transfer rate was much higher than the IdeaPad 710S Plus (282 MBps) and the Surface Laptop (110 MBps) staying only behind the MacBook Pro (727 MBps) due to its superior NVMe SSD.  Although it comes with an integrated Intel HD Graphics 620 GPU it can handle your casual gaming needs efficiently. While it may not be able to run rather demanding titles it is able to run games like Overwatch, BioShock: Infinite or Dirt 3 at a respectable frame rate.
  • Display – It comes with a 13.3-inch QHD panel supporting touchscreen. The first thing you’d notice is that it’s pretty bright. The brightness is found around 330 nits which can be considered as an excellent showing; even though some of the other laptops like Surface Laptop (360 nits), Dell XPS 13 9360 (390 nits) and MacBook Pro (450 nits) were found a bit brighter. It’s good enough for working both indoors and outdoors where the presence strong light source is not abnormal. Secondly, the colours are pretty vibrant as well. With a sRGB colour coverage of nearly 125%, the display sure is able to recreate a hell lot of colours pretty accurately. Whereas Surface Laptop was leading the race with a score of 135% MacBook Pro (123%) and XPS 13 (105%) were clearly lagging behind Razor Blade Stealth. In short, the colours really start to pop out of the screen from the QHD panel.

Downsides:

  • Price – Now, when you’re after a Razor blade you should throw one thought right out of the window of your mind- it’s gonna be cheap (or your pocket’s not gonna get a hole in it). This model comes at around 2 grand. Now if you turn your attention towards its competitors you would find that some of the competitors like the MacBook Pro ($1,800) or Dell XPS 13 ($1500) come at slightly less price. One thing’s for sure it’s lying a bit on the steeper end of the bargain.
  • Battery – The battery backup isn’t the strongest aspect of the machine though. And housing a good battery is one of the key requirements of an ultraportable notebook like this. The battery ran only as long as 5 and a half hour before shutting down for good under regular workload like surfing the internet and playing movies. It not only stayed behind the category average of an ultraportable laptop of 8 hours it also lagged way behind its potential contenders like Yoga 920 (12:05) and XPS 13 (16:00).

Verdict:

So let’s see what we get here- an excellent screen, snappy performance, lightweight build and a stunning looks. And on top of it all, it comes with a super thin chassis of 13.2 mm. So if you value portability above the lacklustre battery backup then Razer Blade Stealth RZ09-01963E33-R3U1 should absolutely be your choice. Recommended.
