Microsoft Surface Book 95F-00002 Review

If you are one of those who loves the Surface Book for its grace then it’s your lucky day. Many of the professionals took a liking to this notebook, although Microsoft doesn’t market it explicitly as a notebook to be used by the professionals. Today we are gonna check out Microsoft Surface Book 95F-00002, one of the standard Surfaces. Let’s dive in head first.

  • CPU – Intel Core i7 Dual-Core (6th Gen), 2.4 GHz
  • GPU – 2 GB DDR5, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 965M
  • Memory – 8 GB DDR3
  • Screen – 13.5-inch Quad HD+ IPS (3,000 x 2,000) with 10-point touchscreen
  • Storage – 256 GB SSD
  • OS – Windows 10 Home edition

  • Performance – It comes with a slightly dated 6th generation i7 processor. It’s accompanied by 8 gigs of RAM and 256 gigs of SSD. Both of the RAM and the SSD seems a bit low to me. But it would be enough for your less demanding web surfing and movie watching jobs. In essence, if it’s not very graphics intensive it can easily handle any task that you can throw at it.
  • GPU – It doesn’t turn down the graphics enthusiasts fully. It is equipped with an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 965M which is a beginner graphics unit. In short, while it’s not immensely powerful a tad bit of gaming and some graphical stuff can be done in it.
  • Display – The unique 13.5-inchQHD+ display was excellent; there weren’t any major issues with it. The brightness is much higher than the category average over 350 nits. The colours are pretty sharp and lively as well thanks to the brilliant 95% sRGB coverage and 1800:1 contrast ratio.
  • Battery – The whole battery is divided into two parts- the bigger one rests in the keyboard base and the remainder lies in the separable display. While the longevity of the display alone is pretty low at only 3 hours, the backup of the whole device was even more than 11 hours. Pretty good indeed.

  • Price – With a price tag of £1500 it certainly isn’t one of your budget laptops. It’s much pricier than any of the available convertibles in the market.
  • Ports – While it seems Microsoft did an excellent job at not cutting any corners from this laptop the ports selection for some strange reason seems pretty shallow. Firstly it doesn’t come with a full-size HDMI port and secondly, which is much more important, it skimps on a Thunderbolt port.

It’s one brilliant notebook; there is no doubt about that. But with the release of the newer Surface Book 2, it became a bit less impressive. But again, Surface Book 2 is almost twice as expensive as this one. So if you want an excellent notebook that would be able to keep up with your creative needs then this can be your candidate.
