- Performance – It’s powered by a 6th gen Intel Core i5 processor. It’s accompanied by 8 gigs of RAM and a dual storage comprised of 1 TB HDD and a relatively faster 128 GB SSD. Despite being slightly dated thanks to the quad cored processor it can handle multitasking and a moderate amount of graphical load quite easily.
- GPU – It comes with an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 950M GPU. It’s capable of handling your occasional gaming needs quite comfortably. If it isn’t any of the super-demanding titles then it can make it run in Medium settings in 1080p pretty comfortably while maintaining 30 fps frame rate.
- Display – It ships with a 17.3-inch panel which, to be honest, was satisfactory. The average brightness of the panel is pretty good. So you won’t be having any problems using it in the outdoors. The colours feel pretty vibrant and deep.
Downsides:
- Low powered GPU – Although the dedicated 950M possess enough power to tackle your decent gaming needs it’s a dated graphics unit nevertheless. This Maxwell architectured GPU is the predecessor of the latest GTX 1050 which is in general 30-50% more capable.
- Battery – The 3-cell battery certainly falls short in keeping it alive for long. It stays up for only as long as 4 hours which falls way shorter than the usual 7 hours of the multimedia notebooks.
- No Thunderbolt 3 – Despite costing you nearly nine hundred pounds it doesn’t come with a Thunderbolt port which is really saddening. Similarly priced laptop such as Dell Inspiron 7000 offers TB3.
Verdict:
It’s overall a good notebook but obviously with some serious drawbacks. The absence of a TB3 port is a serious letdown if you ask me. The battery backup is disheartening as well making you unable to use it for long away from that power socket. In short, while it slightly lacks in the gaming abilities it’s a powerful laptop nonetheless.
