Specs:
- CPU – Intel Core i7 Dual-Core (6th Gen), 2.5 GHz
- GPU – 2 GB DDR3, NVIDIA GeForce 940MX
- Memory – 8 GB DDR3
- Screen – 15.6-inch Full HD (1,920 x 1,080)
- Storage – 1 TB SATA HDD
- OS – Windows 10 Home edition
Benefits:
- Performance – It is powered by an Intel Core i7 processor along with 8 gigs of DDR3 RAM. In effect, it can handle any of your daily trivial tasks quite comfortably. And for your storage needs, it comes equipped with a 1 TB hard disk drive, although it can be a bit slow.
- GPU – It houses a dedicated NVIDIA GeForce 940MX GPU with 2 GB of VRAM. It can be considered as a low-grade starter GPU which can handle a limited amount of gaming and graphical tasks. Most of the titles could only be made run in HD display resolution up to medium preset.
- Ports – While the ports are not abundant it surely includes the most essentials (and some not-so-important as well). It includes 3 USB ports, An HDMI port, an SD card slot, an old-school VGA port and quite surprisingly, an optical disk drive.
- Price – Price is one of the most attractive features of this Ideapad model. Priced at £650 it is not only gonna lure the cheap notebook lovers but the novice gamers as well thanks to the NVIDIA GPU.
Downsides:
- Battery – Upon taking a closer look at the specs sheet you’d notice eventually that it comes with a meagre 30 Wh battery. It’s no wonder that it could stay up for only as long as 4 and half hours under the web surfing test. Pretty pathetic!
- Display – The display is only average at most. While the brightness is somewhat good at 280 nits which is almost same as the category average everything else is just straight out poor. The colours seem dull and muted due to the low colour coverage and contrast ratio.
- Slow HDD – As mentioned earlier, it comes with an old-fashioned hard disk drive, moreover it’s the 5400 rpm variance which is much slower than its 7200 rpm counterpart. In short, nobody can keep it from getting sluggish.
Verdict:
Let’s summarise the situation- it certainly packs some punch, it comes with all the needed ports and most importantly it’s pretty pocket-friendly. But on the negative side, the battery backup is a major letdown. In short, if longevity is not a big issue for you then this can be your choice.
