HP Pavilion 15-cd040wm Review

If it’s one thing that must be included in your college-bag, then it surely would be an HP Pavilion. HP has always been (and hopefully will continue to be) the producer of quality products with an affordable price tag. So, rather than wasting anymore time, let’s check it out.

Specs:

  • CPU – AMD A12 9720P Quad-Core, 2.7 GHz
  • GPU – AMD Radeon R7
  • Memory – 12 GB ((1 x 8) GB + (1 x 4) GB) DDR4
  • Screen – 15.6-inch HD (1,366 x 768)
  • Storage – 1 TB SATA HDD
  • OS – Windows 10 Home edition

Benefits:

  • Looks – It looks pretty damn good having a slick and smooth finish. It comes in a wide range of colours according to your personal liking.
  • Performance – Well, surprisingly enough it comes with an AMD A12 processor instead of a regular Intel, with 12 gigs of RAM and AMD Radeon R7 graphics card (not so surprised anymore!!). It runs pretty smoothly making your life way easier. If you happen to not be a big fan of the AMD, then, for your information, it can be stuffed with a GPU as powerful as Nvidia 960M.
  • Optical drive – If you happen to still like those old and clunky CDs (or simply you still need those for your school project), the optical disk drive would come handy. I still don’t understand why so many laptops nowadays come without it (and makes you buy an external one…).

Downsides:

  • Plastic finish – The casing is made purely of plastic fibre. Now, would have I liked a metal casing?? Obviously, yes. But again, looking at all the other aspects (such as the weight and the costing), I think it can be overlooked.
  • Battery – The battery, while performing not very bad, is not so attractive either. It usually lasts as long as 4 hours maximum under standard conditions which, according to my opinion, is a bit towards the lower end. And if you happen to forget to optimise all the settings, it can come down to a miniscule 2 hours.
  • Sound – Now, some people do complain about the sound system in the Pavilion 15 provided by the famed Bang & Olufsen. It’s not a mechanical or physical problem but rather a software issue though. It seems there are still some issues (or some nasty bugs!!) with the drivers of the speakers in this laptop.

Verdict:

This machine is really a great value for your money. It’s worth every penny that you spend on it. So, if you want a handsome looking laptop that would also get your job done, then it’s definitely for you.
