The Dell Inspiron series has been one of the most well-known budget laptop series in the market. While it isn’t as luxurious as the XPS series from the very Dell itself, it does manage to come at a much affordable price range. To know whether this 13-inch ultralight laptop, Inspiron i7370-7756SLV-PUS, was able to deliver what it needs to read on.

Specs:
- CPU – Intel Core i7 Quad-Core (8th Gen), 1.8 GHz
- GPU – Intel UHD Graphics 620
- Memory – 8 GB (1 x 8 GB) DDR4
- Screen – 13.3-inch Full HD IPS (1,920 x 1,080) with 10 point touchscreen
- Storage – 256 GB SSD
- OS – Windows 10 Home edition
Benefits:
- Performance – it comes with a powerful 8th generation Intel Core i7 processor, 8 GB of DDR4 RAM and 256 GB of SSD. Although I would have very much liked 16 gigs of RAM rather than the provided 8 gigs, the machine is nevertheless powerful enough not only to take on your everyday needs but also gruesome tasks like photo editing or casual gaming. Although the existing onboard Intel UHD Graphics 620 GPU is not really very powerful but can at least quench your thirst for gaming once in a while. One important stuff to notice is that it includes a SATA SSD which is much slower than a PCIe SSD. This can be seen firsthand when you find out that the average read speed is found at nearly 550 MBps and the write speed around 500 MBps (whereas transfer rate in laptops with PCIe version reaches up to 2 GBps!!).
- Display – It includes a surprisingly good display at this price range. It’s a 13.3-inch FHD IPS panel supporting touchscreen. The display is adequately bright at 287 nits. It does trail a tad bit behind the category average of 290 nits but that doesn’t get in the way of using it both in indoor places and outdoors. Next is the colours. The panel showed an excellent sRGB colour coverage of 100% which can be considered as an excellent showing considering it outperformed Lenovo Yoga 720 13 and Asus ZenBook 3 Deluxe staying only behind Dell XPS 13. The delta E value measuring the colour accuracy of the display is found around 1.6 which is again great in comparison with the others. The contrast ratio is also pretty high at 830:1 making the dark part of the scene even deeper. And lastly, the touchscreen itself was pretty sensitive and accurate.
Downsides:
- Battery – Providing a good battery is one of the key requirements of a productivity laptop. And this tiny battery is not really up to the mark if you ask me. While doing some strenuous jobs like heavy internet surfing and video streaming it lasted only as long as 4 and a half hour which is clearly much less than its competitors. And again, under normal workload (such as watching videos) it ran out of juice in more or less just 7 hours which again falls short of the category average of 8 hours. Most of the potential contenders like Lenovo Yoga 720 (7:04), Dell XPS 13 (9:00) and Lenovo Yoga 920 (13:50) performed better in the test.
- Input system – Opening the laptop reveals the backlit, island-style keypad and the trackpad. The first thing you’d notice is that there is no separate number pad here. For me, it’s one of the crucial most aspects of a good keypad. But again, you can’t really expect that in a 12-inch ultrabook. Also, It would be a lie if I say that the typing experience was very pleasant. The keys felt shallow and stiff due to the inadequate travel distance (1.1 mm, in this case, 1.5 mm or more is preferable) and high actuation of 80 grams (65 grams is ideal). The keys really need some time to get accustomed. The trackpad is nice and sensitive. It recorded almost all the touch and taps correctly. Although the trackpad surface was a bit rough (mostly to heighten the grip and friction I think); A bit too rough to my liking in fact.
Verdict:
The Dell Inspiron i7370-7756SLV-PUS does have some great positives to it like the overall excellent performance, great display and a good build quality. But again, the poor battery life really makes it hard to make it your goto laptop on the go. If that isn’t gonna be an issue for you then it can be a good option for you.
