Today we are going to review another one of the Dell. Dell especially the Inspiron series seems to be one of the most famous and sought-after names in the budget laptop section nowadays. This time it’s Dell Inspiron i7370-5732SLV-PUS, a 13-inch variance of the 7000 series. Let’s start the review then.

Specs:
- CPU – Intel Core i5 Quad-Core (8th Gen), 1.6 GHz
- GPU – Intel UHD Graphics 620
- Memory – 8 GB (1 x 8 GB) DDR4
- Screen – 13.3-inch Full HD IPS (1,920 x 1,080) with 10-point touchscreen
- Storage – 256 GB SSD
- OS – Windows 10 Home edition
Benefits:
- Performance – This is a moderately powerful laptop incorporating an 8th generation Intel Core i5 processor, 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of SSD. On both synthetic and real-life tests, it performed pretty strongly and surpassed even competitors like the Microsoft Surface Laptop i5. The included SSD is a major step up from the old school hard disk drive as it’s much faster than that. The solid state drive though is a bit slower than the regular SSD with the read speed at 475 MBps and write speed at around 450 MBps (the expected sequential transfer rate for this kind of SSD is 1 GBps).
- Coling – This machine includes a pretty efficient cooling system. Even while making the laptop run at full load the top of the laptop got only as hot as 41°C (105°F) and the bottom, slightly hotter, 48°C (118°F). None of the temperatures were as severe as it gets in some of the other laptops. The fans in the Inspiron i7370 usually don’t fire up at every step. Other than doing some really strenuous task the fans barely ever decided to spin up. Even then the overall noise level was pretty low. The noise level was recorded nearly at 30-33 dB while fan speed was mild and 36 dB while the machine was running under load. Both the numbers imply pretty low profile fans.
Downsides:
- Display – The display is not terrible. It simply is here because it wasn’t as good as one could expect from a laptop worthy of 900 bucks. The first and foremost thing is the panel brightness. At 290 nits (240 nits while running solely on the battery) it’s somewhat mediocre lagging behind the category average of 300 nits. Some of the other laptops like HP Spectre 13 (380 nits) and Microsoft Surface Laptop i5 (375 nits) showed better brightness than this one. The sRGB colour coverage of the display is pretty good at 80%. While we’ve seen many panels that come with worse coverage there are displays like Surface as well which showed an excellent result of 95%. The colour contrast is again quite average if not good at 900:1. One bad thing about the screen is that it is pretty glossy. While this kind of glossy panel is pretty common for touchscreen machines it only causes trouble and makes your life harder while working outdoors.
- Battery – The battery backup again isn’t very bad, just so-so. It includes a 3-cell 38 Wh battery pack. The laptop lasted slightly more than 5 and a half hour while doing some browsing and streaming before going dead. While it is not very short by any chance, it did fall behind the category average of 8 hours. Spectre 13 (6:30) and Surface Laptop (10:00!!) lasted much longer in the same endurance tests.
Verdict:
Let’s sum up the situation- it looks slim, showed great overall performance and acts cool (literally…:)). But if it needs to improve in any aspect then it probably should be its mediocre display and somewhat lacklustre battery life. But in spite of them, it gave a promising show and paid out handsomely. Recommended.
