With so many 2-in-1’s out there in the market it’s really a hard task to make a decision. Today we’re gonna review another one of those Inspirons, Dell Inspiron i5379-5893GRY-PUS. But this time around it’s a 2-in-1 as stated with a 13-inch display. Let’s get into the review then.

Specs:
- CPU – Intel Core i5 Dual-Core (8th Gen), 1.6 GHz
- GPU – Intel UHD Graphics 620
- Memory – 8 GB (1 x 8 GB) DDR4, extendable upto 16 GB
- Screen – 13.3-inch Full HD IPS (1,920 x 1,080) with 10-point touchscreen
- Storage – 256 GB SSD
- OS – Windows 10 Home edition
Benefits:
- Performance – It’s configured quite amply. It houses an efficient Intel Core i5 processor, 8 gigs of RAM which can be extended up to 16 gigs and a 256 GB SSD- everything one might need to get their job done. The SSD is pretty snappy as well making the machine even faster. While the solid state drive certainly is faster than a traditional hard disk drive with the sequential read speed of 500 MBps and write speed of 450 MBps it still is a bit slower than some of the competitors. But the machine is quite powerful nevertheless with the configuration stated earlier. There was only a slight bit of lag even while there was a large number (20 to be precise) of tabs open in the browser and watching movies at the same time. Quite a show of power, ain’t it??
- Input – I would say the keyboard is okay, if not good. It includes a backlit (very important!!) keyboard that doesn’t include the dedicated number pad. The number pad is something that I care about a bit too much. Although I don’t really mind the absence of that here considering that it’s a 13-inch laptop. The keystrokes felt a bit shallow and mushy. Other than that the keyboard was pretty good overall. The trackpad was good. It recognised almost all the taps and pinches correctly. The left and right buttons were a bit noisy though. The touchscreen was pretty sensitive and accurate as well.
Downsides:
- Display – Dell Inspiron i5379 comes with a 13.3 inch Full HD IPS panel supporting touchscreen. The display is not really very bright at only 225 nits. It lags much behind the category average of 290 nits as well as its competitors Asus ZenBook Flip UX360CA and Lenovo Yoga 710 (290 nits for both). The panel is a bit glossy as well due to incorporating a touchscreen. As a result, you would be having a hard time taking it outside and working outdoors as glare can be a major issue. The sRGB coverage is not very high either at only 65%. As a result, the colours look pretty shallow. Although it would be a lie if I told the display is not sharp. The colour accuracy is pretty average at 1.3. Both the contenders’ panel- ZenBook (0.7) and Yoga (1.1) are more accurate than Inspiron. In a nutshell, while the display is not terrible it certainly is a bit disappointing.
- Battery – A solid battery backup is one of the key requirements these days; even more so for a 2-in-1 like this. The battery lasted just a bit more than 6 hours when surfing the internet and watching movies at low brightness. While it may look like a satisfying result it really isn’t much considering the ultraportable category average of 8 hours. Both the ZenBook and Yoga lasted more than the average surpassing Inspiron by a mile.
- No USB C – Well it’s a bummer that it doesn’t come with a USB type-C port. While it might not seem like an important stuff right now but you can stay assured that it’s gonna be THE in-thing in near future.
Verdict:
It’s a good choice if you don’t really mind the slightly dim screen and the relatively shorter battery backup. Although it’s not the perfect machine that Dell ever made but it certainly is cheap. So if you are bound by the bucks it would be a good candidate for your goto notebook.
