Dell Inspiron 5000 G8Y75 Review

It’s not every day that we get to see a laptop that is equipped with an AMD GPU. Today we are gonna check out such a notebook, Dell Inspiron 5000 G8Y75 that not only comes at a pretty affordable price but also is pretty moderately equipped. Let’s see then how it performed in the tests.

Specs:

  • CPU – Intel Core i7 Quad-Core (8th Gen), 1.6 GHz
  • GPU – 4 GB DDR5, AMD Radeon 530
  • Memory – 8 GB DDR4
  • Screen – 13-inch Full HD IPS (1,920 x 1,080)
  • Storage – 256 GB SSD
  • OS – Windows 10 Home edition

Benefits:

  • Performance – Okay, let’s check out then what it has got under that metallic-hued chassis (although not metal, in reality, only plastic). It is powered by an Intel Core i7 processor which is able to handle even the harshest challenges pretty easily. It’s accompanied by 8 gigs of RAM and 256 gigs of SSD. While the SSD is much faster than your standard HDD it’s not the fastest. In short, it can take care of your regular jobs as well as a bit of gaming quite comfortably.
  • GPU – It is loaded with an AMD Radeon 530 GPU which is an entry to higher entry grade graphics unit. It usually can’t run most of the latest titles in its native 1080p display resolution; although for some of the less strenuous titles like Overwatch, Dota 2 and FIFA 18 it was able to handle them even up to the Medium settings in 1080p.
  • Ports – Despite being a 13 incher the port selection surely is pretty amazing. It includes a couple of USB type-A ports, a USB type- C port, a full-size HDMI port (which is really rare for a 13-inch notebook) and an SD card reader. It lacks a Thunderbolt port though.

Downsides:

  • Display – It includes a 13 inch Full HD display which is not half bad, to be honest. The display might be good for productivity tasks but while watching movies the lack of depth in the colours doesn’t go unnoticed. And most importantly the average brightness of the panel is pretty darn low. In short, you’d be asking for trouble if you decide to bring this outdoors.
  • Battery – It lags seriously in this battery longevity section, to be honest. The 38 Wh battery couldn’t even make it stay for five hours in the web surfing test. So you SHOULD carry that power brick with you while using it in your school or office.
  • Portability – Now, one of the most attractive features of this 13-inch section is their portability. And weighing at 1.6 kg (3.53 lbs), it surely is not going score much for the portability.

Verdict:

It’s a mixed bag of results, to be honest. While it includes some really heavy machinery under its hood and also comes with almost all the essential ports, it would truly disappoint many due to the lacklustre battery backup. So it can be a choice for you if you don’t mind plugging it in your lunchtime at the office.
