Specs:

CPU: Quad Core Intel i7-7700 – Base Clock of 3.6 GHz, Boost Clock 4.2 GHz
Chipset: Intel B150
RAM: DDR4 16 GB
GPU: Nvidia GTX 1050 2GB

Hard Drive: 1 TB hybrid hard drive with a 128 GB SSD
Disk Drive: DVD/CD Writer/Reader
Power Supply: 240 Watts
OS: Windows 10 Home 64

Benefits:

– The Core i7-7700 is a powerful quad core processor that will produce some great results in CPU-heavy applications. With a boost clock of 4.2GHz and multithreading capabilities, you’ll receive an impressive balance between decent multi core performance, and strong single core performance.
– The 16GB of RAM will help make sure you don’t encounter a RAM bottleneck when using sound/video editing applications.
– The Nvidia GTX 1050 2GB is a decent entry level card that can provide smooth gameplay in the vast majority of games in 1080p on medium settings.
– The hybrid hard drive that’s included is pretty good considering it includes a 128 GB SSD too!

Downsides:

– The Core i7-7700 is not as strong as its brother, the Core i7-7700K. It runs at lower clock speeds, and it lacks the overclocking abilities that its “K” version has.
– The 240 W power supply is abysmal at best. If you’d like to upgrade the graphics card or any other major part of the PC, you will need to upgrade the power supply.
– The price. The Dell Inspiron i3668-7404BLK-PUS is going for $1,599.99 on Best Buy Canada’s website. While it includes a fairly powerful processor, a hybrid hard drive with a 128 GB SSD, and an entry-level graphics card, you’d be hard pressed to find a reason to purchase this desktop at its market price.
– The B150 chipset does not support SLI or Nvidia Crossfire, so if you’d like to add a second GPU down the line, you’ll need to change your processor, PSU, and motherboard.

Verdict:

The Dell Inspiron i3668-7404BLK-PUS would be a great buy if it were significantly cheaper. It has a strong processor and it’d be a great workplace for amateur video/sound editors. When it comes down to it, there just isn’t a reason to purchase this computer for $1,599.99. You’re better off searching for a different desktop, or waiting until it goes on sale.
