Prior to ZenBook, the notebook market was conquered mostly by some of the big names in the PC world like Dell XPS 15 and Apple MacBook Pro. To counter them, Asus released Asus ZenBook UX550VE-DB71T, a newer and improved version to the existing Zenbook UX501. Let’s get to the fun part then.

Specs:

  • CPU – Intel Core i7 Quad-Core (7th Gen), 2.8 GHz
  • GPU – 4 GB DDR5, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti
  • Memory – 16 GB (1 x 16 GB) DDR4, Fixed
  • Screen – 15.6-inch Full HD IPS (1920 x 1080)
  • Storage – 512 GB SSD
  • OS – Windows 10 Home edition

Benefits:

  • Battery – It sure is capable of mesmerising you with its stunning 73 Whour, 8 cell Li-ion battery. Even while doing some moderate tasks such as surfing the net or watching Netflix, it gives a stunning battery life of more than 10 hours.
  • Portability – Another one of the big plus points of this laptop (or rather notebook) is its weight. Even though it’s a 15-inch laptop, it’s only as heavy as nearly 4 pounds. So, one thing for sure, it scores a ton for its portability.
  • Ports – It has got 2 USB Type-C ports with Thunderbolt 3. USB C ports can be a great feature to get a hold of with its lightning-fast data transfer and super fast charging capabilities.

Downsides:

  • Cooling – Okay, truth be told, the ventilation system provided in the Zenbook is not up to mark. The cooling mechanism that Asus offers is not very efficient to work with an i7 and a 1050 graphics card. Although, it’s not as bad as one of those which literally becomes scalding hot, but it still gets warm pretty quickly; especially if you’re using it in a warm place and running some high-end games (although it’s not a gaming laptop in the first place). This can seriously hinder you from using it to its fullest.
  • Memory/storage – There is no additional hard disk drive available in this laptop other than the 512 GB solid state drive. It can really get cramped in that tiny external storage. On top of that, the 8 GB RAM is fixed with the board. So, no room for further upgrade.

Verdict:

To be honest, it’s on par with its competitors like Dell XPS 15 and Macbook on overall performance. If one place where it outperforms the others is its battery backup. So if you’re looking for a great lightweight notebook for your every day works, you should safely go for it.
